I got my first exposure to real tough negotiations in a Federal Prison… and I was the one doing the negotiations. I didn’t have a lot of experience with it, just from the little training we were given. I didn’t remember everything in the training, but I did remember they said to above all other things, become an active listener. Listen to their side and get an understanding of where they’re coming from. That way you can work on solving the problem and recommend a solution. Now, after years and years of training and experience, I’ve pretty much mastered the art of negotiating.
After 4 years in the Air Force, 3 years in the Army Guard, then moving to Austin, Houston, D.C., Clermont, Tallahassee, Madison, MS and back to sunny central Florida, my long and wonderful 26-year Government/law enforcement career ended and shortly thereafter, Team Cooper Homes began.
